Obviously online therapy (teletherapy) is of great help when we need to avoid physical closeness to protect patients and providers during the current pandemic illness. The state of emergency increases people’s anxiety but visits to any healthcare provider increases our risk. Online therapy can be one solution to that problem.
Online therapy offers benefits unique to the online video setting. When the patient/client and the therapist can see each others’ faces, it is more than a stopgap. Both therapist and patient/client can get a great deal of information about themselves by seeing themselves on the screen.
Emotions are readily available on a shared screen. Both the therapist and the patient can clearly see what their face and voice are conveying. Because of this, online therapy can shorten the time of treatment. We become aware of feelings from our faces and voices sooner.
